Boy what a setback!

After a crazy spring (which I won't get into detail) and having to completely move ourselves and the build we are now ready to start framing! Woo! I just hope we beat the snow!! In June we finished the floor insulation and deck.  Here's some photos of the insulation process, where we are at and the deck looking good. Oh yeah.

It's already May 20th..

How does time fly?

It's already the 20th of May and we still have yet to begin building.

While we both are a little disappointed, there are reasons that we both understand on why we aren't ready yet.  According to plan we would have started building as soon as we got our trailer to the build site, but lack of materials and a few late season winter storms have prevented us from beginning.

This week was set to be the week where we finalized our window purchases, and begun insulating and framing. Well, we woke up to 16" of snow yesterday,  so after digging the Jeep out of the snow we decided to venture out to Denver and try to find some usable windows from some second hand stores. The picture is of our trailer and some insulation being covered by the snow as we left 

The day was mostly cold and rainy, and we found some "maybes" which we might revisit but inevitably came home empty-handed again.

Luckily the forecast is set to warm up after this weekend so actual build updates are about to begin, and we couldn't be more thrilled. I'm continuing our window search while I sit and watch as the snow melts.

In early April we finally found a trailer manufacturer we liked and luckily this one was local.

Trailer Made LLC, offered us a sound structure and a ton of information. Damon was incredibly helpful during this process. He started building our trailer after we got him the deposit on April 9th, and even though he had a huge move scheduled for the end of the month he got our trailer done ahead of time; and we were able to pick up our tiny house foundation by April 24th!

Damon and his wife and the whole crew at Trailer Made were incredibly friendly and helpful and I couldn't be more pleased with their professionalism and help.

Begining of a new adventure...

Over a year ago, my partner suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI for short) and since then our lives have forever changed.  In some parts for the better, and some parts for the worse but we persevere and move on with our lives despite setbacks and challenges.  Since then she is no longer able to work after developing a debilitating seizure disorder that affects her with little to no warning.  I have been her partner for almost 3 years, and caretaker for her during the process of her healing.

After a lot of research, and talk we made the decision to transition to tiny living.  We realized that the modern and commercial lifestyle wasn't for us any longer.  A change of pace and a change in lifestyle was needed.

We took the time to decide what was the right kind of home for us, and settled on the well put-together plans by Andrew and Gabrielle Morrison, and tinyhousebuild.com.  We purchased their plans and have been working on sourcing our materials and planning our build out for the Spring/Summer/Fall of 2015.
